2023 Mercedes A-Class Debuts With Subtle Design Changes and More Efficient Mills

Mercedes has unveiled the facelift of the A-class, featuring slightly revised headlights and grille along with a new diffuser and standard LED taillights. The compact luxury car will be available in hatchback and sedan body styles, offering customers four new wheel choices (up to 19 inches in size) comprising an AMG Line pair with a shiny black multi-spoke style.
Besides, customers could pick exterior paint from a variety of options in matte and metallic finishes. The interior gets a revised steering wheel sporting Nappa leather and slight changes on the centre console. The new MBUX is a part of the deal operating through a seven-inch driver’s display (upgradable to a 10.25-inch diagonal display).
Regarding the powertrain, the petrol mills come with a mild-hybrid system that pairs with either seven- or eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmissions. The 48V hybrid system offers 13 horsepower (10 kilowatts) extra in the beginning.

The plug-in hybrid model also creates an additional 7 hp (5 kW) to deliver 107 hp (80 kW). The battery can be charged on AC at up to 11 kW or DC at 22 kW, taking 25 minutes to juice up from 10 to 80 per cent.
If it is not enough power, Mercedes-AMG offers A35 in hatchback and sedan body styles and the A45 S in hatchback-only format. Apart from the styling tweaks, the AMG A35 is powered by a mild-hybrid tech mating to an eight-speed DCT instead of seven-speed transmission (available previously). However, the power production remains the same at 302 hp (225 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque.
The 2023 AMG A45 S also gets a Street Style Edition that comes with an array of exterior upgrades, including Mountain Grey Magno paint, an aerodynamic kit, 19-inch matte black wheels, and red brake calipers. It is powered by the old M139 mill generating 416 hp (310 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft), but it is not the most robust four-cylinder powerplant anymore carried by a production vehicle. Reason? The same engine pumps out 470 hp (350 kW) and 545 Nm (402 lb-ft) for the new AMG C63.

For the AMG A45 S, the M139 enables the vehicle to hit 62 miles per hour (100 km/h) in 3.9 secs and top out at 168 mph (270 km/h). We are unsure whether the more powerful version of the M139 will be available for the compact A45 S.
