25 Used Cars That Appreciated the Most In 2021
Secondhand vehicle values appreciated by almost 70 per cent in 2021, according to data from Cap HPI.
The valuations expert Cap HPI recently released data regarding vehicles that witnessed the highest price increase between January 2021 and January 2022. Owing to the lower supply of new cars courtesy of the semiconductor shortage, the Brits had to resort to the UK’s used car market.
The annual result was a 27 per cent price increase for secondhand vehicles, including petrols, diesels, hybrids, and electrics.
The highest rise in price was seen for the 2012-2019 Toyota Auris Hybrid, where the models with three years/30,000 miles grew 68.8 per cent in value.
Translating this effect in another way, the average Auris Hybrid grew by a massive £6,904 in the past year.
A step behind the Auris was the 2012-2018 Vauxhall Zafira with an average value increase of 64.9 per cent, translating to £5,861 in cash.
The best used-car performers included multipurpose vehicles, diesel utility vehicles, and one electric vehicle.
The price appreciation was so good that even the last vehicle on our list - the 2013-2020 Dacia Sandero diesel – witnessed a 49 per cent jump in value, with typical models demanding £2,569 in 2021.
While prices went up by 27.6 per cent throughout the last year, they didn’t plunge to the bottom by the end of 2021.
The New Year came with stable prices, Cap HPI’s director of valuations told Car Dealer. He believes 2022 will stay ‘strong and stable’ because the new car supply is still very slow.
The almost-70 per cent value rise we observed in the last year is likely to continue a curio of 2021, however.
That said, the prices of used vehicles will not rise as much as we experienced last year, Derren added.
