August Sees Over 1% Boost in Used Car Sales for UK’s Top 200 Dealers
Used car sales among the UK’s top 200 dealers increased by more than 1% in August, according to the latest figures.
Data from CarCondor reveals that the country’s largest dealers sold 170,124 used cars last month, a slight 1.45% rise compared to July's 167,697.
The increase reflects findings from specialists like Cap HPI, indicating that August turned out to be unexpectedly robust for the used car market, with both sales and prices staying solid.
Secondhand car sales generated £3.48 billion in July, representing a slight increase of 0.7% compared to July’s £3.46 billion.
CarCondor says, the new stock fell by a notable 9.12% to 160,089, indicating a potential widespread lack of quality used cars.
Sales across all types of dealerships increased by 1.31%. Franchised sellers excelled the list with a 2.27% progress in sales, while supermarkets followed with a 1.45% increase. In contrast, independent dealers experienced a decline in sales of 3.88%.
Larger dealers with inventories of 5,000 cars or more were the only ones to experience an uptick in sales during August. Their sales rose by 16.05%, whereas all other dealers with fewer than 5,000 cars faced a decline.
In August, Arnold Clark continued to lead as the dealer with the highest inventory on the Top 200 list, maintaining an average stock of 17,028 cars.
Sytner held onto its second position from the numbers in July, having sold 9,006 vehicles. Evans Halshaw moved up two positions to secure third place, while Cinch held firm in fourth and Marshall slipped to fifth. Group 1 advanced one rank to sixth, and both Bristol Street Motors and Lookers each slipped down one position.
Completing the top 10 were Motorpoint and JCT600.
The largest increase in used car stock for the month was recorded by Sandown Motor Group, which had 102 pre-owned vehicles.
Hilton Car Supermarket, climbing 21 positions to rank 69, demonstrated notable growth and continues to strengthen its presence in the competitive used car market.
The Ford Fiesta kept on to be the top-selling vehicle, whereas the switest-selling model was the Mercedes-Benz GLB. This German SUV also topped the charts as the fastest-selling second-hand car in both June and July.
