Auto Trader analyzes the time it takes for cars to sell on its platform by tracking when they are listed and removed. Typically, used cars sell within a range of 50-60 days.

According to Marc Palmer, Auto Trader's head of strategy and insight, several factors influence the time it takes for certain car models to sell, such as fuel type, price, age, and market stock volume, in addition to overall demand trends.

"In 2023, the least speedy vehicle overall belonged to the diesel category, and this pattern persists till now.

"Presently, there's a 7% decrease in the desire for diesel automobiles on Auto Trader. The sluggish movers primarily consist of older diesel models, facing heightened vulnerability to the latest ULEZ standards and bearing higher operational costs due to fuel prices, which albeit are moderating.

"Utilising appropriate data and insights can adeptly steer through these evolving dynamics, pinpointing vehicles poised for swift sales and enhanced profitability."
