Electric Car Over Petrol-Powered
One in Five UK Car Purchasers Prefer An Electric Car Over Petrol-Powered To Save Cost: Study
Nearly one in five vehicle purchasers who didn’t consider an electric car before are now thinking about it to counter inflation.
What Car? recently conducted a survey on 1,113 vehicle buyers and discovered that rising fuel prices and usual living expenses had altered the buying choice of 43.31 per cent in the UK.
The buyers are now thinking about other makes and models, postponing purchasing, or exploring EVs to curtail their running expenses.
Out of 19.13 per cent who took part in the study revealed, they were not considering an EV before but were now contemplating buying one to counter the inflation.
The study also discovered that over a fifth (21.65 per cent) had agreed to defer their purchase, with 9.97 per cent postponing by over three months.
Of those polled, a third of buyers (35.84 per cent) said they were now considering purchasing other car makes and models compared to what they planned before.
What Car? asked a fascinating question to potential car buyers who weren't keen to buy an EV before. They inquired how high the fuel price would be for them to switch to electric vehicles.
The automotive publication discovered that 20.71 per cent would consider switching to EVs when the fuel price hovers between £2 and £3 per litre, whereas 10.65 per cent would only switch when prices reach between £3 and £4 per litre.
What Car? editor Steve Huntingford stated that the increasing fuel cost and inflation are two prime factors for car purchasers to switch to EVs.
Since more and more automakers are now offering electric vehicles in various price brackets and driving ranges, the adoption of EVs will naturally rise.
