Honda Plans To Sell Its Chinese-Made e:Ny1 EV in the UK
Honda is set to enter the market of Chinese-origin electric vehicles by introducing its e:Ny1 family car in the United Kingdom.
The Japanese automaker ceased production in the UK in July 2021, closing its Swindon plant after 36 years of automobile manufacturing.
During a press gathering held in Offenbach, Germany, the automaker made an announcement regarding the commencement of SUV orders later this year. The Times reported that Tom Gardner, the Senior Vice President of Honda Motor Europe, expressed his excitement, referring to it as a significant milestone that marks the beginning of a promising chapter for Honda.
The e:Ny1 is manufactured at a Honda facility in Wuhan and is expected to have a price tag exceeding £40,000. Customers will be able to place orders this autumn, and the vehicle will be delivered in early 2024.
Honda intends to target current owners of Jazz or Civic models who have not yet transitioned to electric vehicles. Additionally, they aim to attract buyers who may not be familiar with Chinese automotive brands like BYD and GWM Ora.
This model represents Honda's second venture into producing a fully electric vehicle, following the release of their 'e' city car.

According to an article in The Times, Rebecca Adamson, who holds a leadership position at Honda UK's automotive division, emphasised the company's commitment to engineering excellence, dependable branding, and exceptional service assistance. She further expressed that customers tend to place greater trust and confidence in familiar and reputable entities known for their reliability.
According to Honda, the e:Ny1 features a compact and efficient power drive unit, combining a lightweight electric motor and gearbox. This integrated unit is designed to produce impressive performance with a maximum yield of 150 kW and 310 Nm of torque.
As for its energy source, the power-dense lithium-ion battery offers an estimated range of up to 256 miles (WLTP). Additionally, the vehicle supports DC fast charging, allowing for a convenient 10 to 80 percent charge in just 45 minutes.
Honda has identified the UK as a strong market for the e:Ny1, given that nearly one-third of Honda's European sales occur in this region. The UK's ambitious zero-emission goals have made it an attractive target for Honda's electric vehicle.

To showcase its electric identity, the e:Ny1 will introduce new design elements, such as white 'H' badges located on various parts of the vehicle, like the nose badge, wheel centre caps, and steering wheel.
Furthermore, a fresh font is utilized to spell out the word 'Honda' on the rear of the vehicle, aiming to create a sophisticated appearance that will be present in upcoming electric vehicles from the manufacturer. During the EV’s introduction, Gardner expressed,
"The e:Ny1 represents the natural progression in our efforts to transition towards electric mobility in Europe." "Our approach to development combines smart, customer-focused technology with elegant design and enjoyable driving performance."
"This recent SUV exemplifies Honda's dedication to electric mobility and marks another milestone in Honda's journey towards electrification."
The new EV from Honda will take some time to reach our shores. Meanwhile, you can head to our used car supermarket to purchase Honda used cars in Milton Keynes.
