Kia EV4 Targets European Market with Hatchback, Global Fastback Variant
Kia’s EV4 is finally out in the open, and it’s looking like a real competitor to the Volkswagen ID 3. I saw the concept last year, and to be honest, not much has changed. It’s slotting right between the EV3 hatch and the upcoming EV5 SUV, which Europe should be getting pretty soon.
If you’re in Europe, expect the EV4 mostly as a five-door hatchback. Makes sense, considering it’s going head-to-head with cars like the ID 3, Hyundai’s Kona Electric, and Renault’s Mégane E-Tech. Even the Mini Aceman is in its sights. But if you’re elsewhere, Kia’s got a different take—a four-door fastback. The wheelbase stays the same, but the rear is more sloped, which means a bigger trunk.
As far as specs go, Kia’s keeping quiet. But it’s going to ride on the E-GMP platform, the same as the brand’s other EVs. So, logically, you’re looking at two battery options: 58kWh or 81kWh. The drivetrain is either front-wheel or all-wheel drive. Range estimates are more than 350 miles, but don’t expect 800V fast charging. It’s likely sticking to 400V, which caps charging speeds at around 128kW. That’s in line with the EV3 and EV5, so nothing is shocking there.
Kia’s not skipping the performance trims, either. A GT version is almost a given, likely packing enough power to go toe-to-toe with the Tesla Model 3 Performance. That’s going to be interesting.

Interior details are still a mystery. But based on the 2023 concept, there’s a good idea of what’s coming. Expect a minimalist dashboard, sleek digital wraparound display, and an open front cabin with premium materials.
Mark your calendar for February 27. Kia’s EV Day is when all the details drop—including a sneak peek at the EV2, an affordable sub-4m hatch taking on the Renault 5. Price? Around £25,000. That one’s worth watching.
