Record Broken: Rimac Nevera R Reaches 268 MPH as World's Quickest EV
The Rimac Nevera R just smashed it, hitting 268.2 miles per hour to claim the title of the fastest electric car ever. That speed makes this beast not just the king of EVs but also one of the quickest production cars in history, blowing past even the Bugatti Veyron Supersport. They tested it hardcore, and Rimac says the Nevera R set new world records in 24 different categories during its final checks before hitting the streets for customers.
This souped-up version leaves the standard Nevera in the dust, snagging the crown for the fastest-accelerating production car with a wild 0-60mph sprint in just 1.66 seconds—0.08 seconds faster than the regular model. Oh, and it blasted through a 0-400-0kmh run (that’s 0-249-0mph) in only 25.79 seconds, shaving over two seconds off the previous champ. Plus, it nailed a quarter-mile sprint in 7.9 seconds, which is 0.35 seconds better than before.
Mate Rimac, the guy who started the company and runs it, was like, “When we dropped the original Nevera, it felt like we’d hit the max for hypercar performance.” He said they made a huge leap in just one generation, something that used to take decades. The Nevera R? It’s even faster but still comfy and practical enough to drive every day. Breaking records is just what Rimac does, and Mate’s all, “We’re not done yet.”
But here’s the tea: Rimac might not stick to just electric cars forever. Last May, they hadn’t sold all 150 of the standard Neveras, and Mate noticed people were kind of over the whole “forced EV” vibe. He said back in 2016, when they started working on the Nevera, they thought electric cars would be the coolest thing ever by now.

Turns out, some buyers are craving old-school, analog cars instead. Mate compared it to an Apple Watch—super precise, does a million things, even checks your heart rate, but nobody’s dropping $200,000 on one. So, Rimac might mix things up and make something that’s not fully electric to chase that excitement.
The Nevera R’s insane stats are going to get people hyped about electric performance cars again. Speed wasn’t the only focus, though. Rimac wanted the R to handle like a dream, more agile than its grand tourer sibling. They call it a “hyper sports car,” and it’s got next-level all-wheel torque-vectoring tech, tuned for its new Michelin Cup 2 tires.
The steering’s sharper, giving crisp feedback, cutting understeer by 10% and boosting lateral grip by 5%. A new fixed rear wing and a big front diffuser crank up downforce by 15% and aero efficiency by 10%, so it corners like it’s glued to the road. With an extra 190 horsepower, hitting 2078bhp, the R also rocks carbon-ceramic EVO2 brakes. Rimac says these upgrades make the R the ultimate thrill ride on twisty roads.
It’s still got the same 120kWh battery as the standard Nevera, which could do about 250 miles of range. No official word yet on the R’s range, though. Mate Rimac was like, “Our customers wanted a car that really leans into cornering, using all the fancy tech we’ve got.” So, they built the Nevera R—lighter, faster, and way more focused than the original, but still carrying that record-breaking DNA. It only comes in Nebula green and costs a cool £1.97 million before you start adding custom stuff, and trust me, there are tons of options. The standard Nevera? That’s £1.72 million, so the R’s a bit pricier.

This car’s a game-changer, no cap. It’s pushing what electric cars can do, and Rimac’s out here proving they’re not just about speed but making driving straight-up fun. Whether they stick with EVs or try something new, the Nevera R’s setting the bar crazy high.
