Review: 2017 Range Rover Evoque

The 2017 Range Rover Evoque hit the UK roads in summer 2016 to compete with the Audi Q3 and BMW X1. Both its competitors are better machines when it comes to driving comfort. However, the baby Range Rover appears more stylish with better off-road capabilities.

The updated SUV came with a host of new features at a starting price of £30,600. Among the tweaks, British automaker introduced included the new off-road tech and a new infotainment system (elective).

Besides the minor upgrades, Land Rover unveiled a new special edition, the 'Ember.' The automaker produced only a handful of Ember models boasting a distinct roof design and different colour bodywork, big 20-inch alloy wheels, and blackened front and rear lights.

Engines

For the 2017 model year, the automaker carried forward the engine options. The 2.0-litre diesel engines deliver varied power output - 148bhp, 178bhp, and 237bhp. With the least powerful mill, the Evoque can hit 100 km/h in 10.6 seconds. The 178bhp engine does the same in 9.5 seconds, while the most powerful 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel is the fastest of all, completing the 0-100 km/h run in 6.9 seconds.

Besides diesels, Land Rover also offered two petrol options, the fastest of which is 286bhp 2.0-litre that achieves 0-100 km/h in 6.0 seconds.

Salient Features

The 20217 Land Rover Evoque comes equipped with the brand's ‘Low Friction Launch’ system, permitting drivers to pull away securely on low-friction roads, like off-road pavements. The system manages the torque for the wheels intelligently, averting them from spinning.

Perhaps the biggest highlight of the 2017 Evoque is Land Rover’s InControl Touch Pro infotainment system. Jaguar also offers this in its XE and XF vehicles and for the Range Rover Evoque Convertible. It consists of a large 10.2-inch touchscreen instead of the previous standard eight-inch display. Among its top facilities include high-definition 3D maps and the capability to disclose your expected time of arrival with your loved ones.

The InControl Touch Pro system comes standard on the high-end models, including the newly introduced Ember. However, it is elective for models at the lower end of the range.

Furthermore, Land Rover added more standard equipment across the range. For instance, the SE Tech variants come equipped with 12-way electric seats and automatic high-beam assistance. The HSE Dynamic versions and higher boast the Incontrol Touch Pro system, comprising a WiFi hotspot and related cellphone apps, as well as Land Rover’s All-Terrain Progress Control system on variants using an automatic gearbox. It acts like cruise control for off-roading purposes.

Buyers of Autobiography can also opt for the Graphite design pack, which adds tailored 20-inch alloy wheels and black exterior trims at multiple places. It costs around £2,125.

Price

When the 2017 Land Rover Evoque came to the scene, the base model started at £30,600. The mid-range SE Tech and HSE Dynamic cost £33,000 and £41,400, respectively. The range-topping Evoque Autobiography went for £52,200 at least.

You can find the used 2017 Evoque between £18,000 and £32,000 depending on the variant, condition, and mileage.

Other vehicles you can consider

If you are looking for a premium SUV, we recommend you to check the Audi Q3 and BMW X1, as well. The Q3 is a fun-to-drive, practical SUV, and the X1's low running cost is its best merit.
