Zero-Emission Ford E-Transit Custom to Arrive With More Range Than Its MPV Counterpart
Ford is making significant strides in introducing a range of eco-friendly options into the commercial vehicle space. The company recently revealed its ambitious plans to roll out four new electric vans by 2024, each boasting impressive performance and cutting-edge technology. The forthcoming E-Transit Custom, E-Transit Courier, and E-Tourneo Courier are set to join the already-unveiled E-Tourneo Custom, creating a formidable lineup of all-electric vehicles that are sure to impress.
A previous teaser image gave us a glimpse of the four mysterious vehicles shrouded in shadows and left us eagerly anticipating their eventual unveiling. With the full-size E-Transit already making waves in the industry, we can expect the rest of the group to follow suit and maintain the high standard set by its predecessor.
In terms of naming conventions, it appears that Ford will continue with the E-Tourneo Custom’s tried-and-tested system, utilising an ‘E’ prefix to denote the vehicles' pure-electric powertrain. This naming strategy is not only logical but also practical, allowing for a clear and concise way of distinguishing between the electric and non-electric variants of the Transit and Torneo models.
Powertrain and Range
Drawing inspiration from its sibling, the E-Tourneo Custom MPV, the E-Transit Custom is set to deliver an exceptional performance that will impress even the most discerning consumers. According to Ford, the E-Transit Custom will utilise the same powertrain as its MPV counterpart, allowing us to glean valuable insights into its inner workings. With a targeted range of 236 miles, the E-Transit Custom is expected to outperform the MPV by a noteworthy six miles, owing to its streamlined design and the removal of unnecessary interior features and seats.

Charging capabilities will be equally impressive, with the E-Transit Custom boasting a maximum charging rate of 125kW, ensuring that it can be recharged quickly and efficiently. Customers can also choose between two powertrains, each employing a 74kWh battery and providing either 134bhp or a formidable 215bhp.
These advanced features and state-of-the-art battery systems are set to be carried over into Ford's other all-electric commercial vehicles, cementing the automaker's reputation as a pioneer in the field of electric vehicle technology.
Facilities for E-Transit Custom
The automaker has recently unveiled a series of new features and updates for its eagerly anticipated E-Transit Custom. With a brand-new “Mobile Office option pack” set to revolutionise how we work on the go, the E-Transit Custom is poised to take the commercial vehicle industry by storm.
Among the many new features on offer, the "Mobile Office option pack" is undoubtedly one of the most exciting. Boasting a tilting steering wheel as well as a number of tables strategically placed throughout the cabin, this innovative feature is set to transform the way we work while on the road.

But that's not all – Ford has also introduced a brand-new “Delivery Assist” feature, which is designed to simplify and streamline the delivery process for businesses of all sizes. With the ability to automatically activate hazard lights, close open windows, and lock the doors once the driver has exited the vehicle, the E-Transit Custom is set to become the go-to choice for businesses looking to improve their delivery operations.
These new features come hot on the heels of the full-size E-Transit, Ford's first all-electric commercial vehicle, and are set to be joined by a trio of other electrified vans, including the E-Transit Courier, E-Tourneo Courier, and the recently unveiled E-Tourneo Custom. With five electrified vehicles set to be on offer by 2024, Ford is poised to dominate the commercial vehicle market and cement its reputation as a leader in electric vehicle technology.
With a range of new options and updates on offer, including the medium-sized Transit Custom van available with mild-hybrid diesel and plug-in hybrid, the future looks bright for commercial vehicle enthusiasts.
But that's not all – the Tourneo Custom is set to get a pure-electric powertrain in 2023, while the smaller e-Transit Courier van and e-Tourneo Courier MPV are set to join the party with all-electric power in 2024.
Production
These new models will be built by Ford Otosan in Turkey and will draw heavily on technology from VW, thanks to the two firms' joint-venture agreement back in 2019. This exciting partnership has already yielded impressive results, with the Ford Ranger and upcoming Volkswagen Amarok set to hit the market soon and many more exciting projects in the pipeline.
Ford’s Vision
As part of their grand vision to furnish a lineup of commercial vehicles that are proficient in zero-emissions by 2024, encompassing both all-electric and plug-in hybrid variants, the advent of the electric Transit Custom is a momentous achievement for Ford. Furthermore, Ford is diligently striving to achieve a state of carbon neutrality across their European factories, logistics, and contractors, accompanied by zero emissions for all vehicle sales, by 2035.
However, Ford recognises that some customers will impede transitioning from combustion engines to electrification straight away, which elucidates why the forthcoming Transit Custom will provide an array of drive options. It emphasises that the future of Ford's diesel plant in Dagenham, Essex, is guaranteed for the foreseeable future, while transmissions will persist in being created in Cologne before being transported to Turkey for final assembly.
