Maintenance tips

While you may not be in the market for a new car right now, there are certainly ways you can look after the one you have got. Keeping on top of maintenance makes sure your car is good to go, it can make it more efficient for longer and means it could be worth more when you come to sell it. Here are some tips for you to get started with.

Regular checks

Make sure you are checking your car regularly. Every week or two, give it a once over and make sure everything looks in order. If you get any dents or scrapes on your car, it is always best to get them repaired as soon as possible to prevent rusting and them from getting worse. You should be checking your car before each trip anyway, but put some time in to give it a real check over every couple of weeks to spot any issues as they arise.

Fluid watch

From the brakes oil to engine fluid and even the wipers, make sure your fluids are topped up to the correct levels. Whether you opt to get a professional to look at these things or sort the ones you can yourself, make sure you are on top of things. We know how easy it is to run out of wiper fluid but trust us, it is worth checking!

Tyre tread and pressure

Check your tyres regularly to make sure you are driving legally, and safely. You want to check the tread every couple of weeks and the pressure too. You can inflate your tyres for free at some garages, and you should have a label on your car door with instructions. You can check the tread by using a twenty-pence piece or take it to a garage and ask them to check for you.

Keep up with servicing

Keeping up with regular servicing is vital. It means that you don’t miss anything that needs working on, and a car with a full-service history always gets more money than one that doesn’t when you come to sell.

We hope that helps and remember, drive safely and make sure you keep on top of your car maintenance.
