What is keyless entry?
The world of keyless entry is only just getting started, but what is it and how do you actually get in your car? Here is everything you need to know.
Keyless entry is where you can get in your car and often start the engine, without the need for your key to unlock or press into the ignition. You may have also seen boots that open and close of their own accord, modern technology at its finest.
So how does it work?
There is a signal system between the key and the car so when your hand hovers over the handle or over the button, a signal is sent to the key fob, if this in range, the car will unlock and allow entry, so it has plenty of safety tech packed in there as well.
If you want to take the whole thing a step further, some cars have a fob you can download to your phone, so you wouldn’t even need a physical key at all, if you didn’t want to carry one with you.
You do however have to be cautious and careful where you store your key, as they have been known to be cloned in the past and cars have been stolen as a result, but as long as you are careful there are plenty of convenience benefits to a keyless entry car.
They are designed so that the signals only travel a short distance, usually five metres to keep safety measures in check, and for the engine to actually start, the key does need to be somewhere inside the vehicle, so you could keep it in your pocket or your handbag, without the need for locating it and using it to enter and start the car.
Keyless entry is a great help for those looking for that extra bit of convenience. If this sounds up your street, come and speak to the team at Hilton Car Supermarket to find your keyless entry car.
