Powertrains
The initial shipments are set for Spring 2024. The campervan, named "Nugget," will incorporate Ford's EcoBlue diesel engine, which couples with an eight-speed automatic transmission, boasting a performance of 168bhp and granting the choice of front or all-wheel drive.
A year following the debut of the diesel version, Ford plans to introduce the Nugget with their plug-in hybrid setup, pairing a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol mill, an electric motor, and an 11.8kWh battery pack; the combined system creates 228bhp. However, precise details regarding efficiency, electric range, and performance are still pending confirmation.
Features
The camper rests on the latest iteration of the Transit Custom's updated framework, characterised by an advanced independent rear suspension setup. In addition to presenting a driving experience reminiscent of cars, it also enables the choice of all-wheel drive, empowering adventure enthusiasts with a heightened capacity to explore challenging terrains. The dashboard is identical to that of the modern Transit Custom van, exhibiting Ford's new 13-inch SYNC 4 entertainment system, along with cutting-edge driver assistance features like an engaged cruise control system and a comprehensive 360-degree camera setup.
Camper-friendly Features
Starting from this point, manufacturing partner Westfalia has meticulously considered the transformation into a campervan. They've crafted the interior space while considering customers' preferences, drawing from their extensive decades-long experience. The central area in the cabin flexibly serves multiple functions—it acts as a cooking space, seating area, and a sleeping zone. This ingenious design permits the setup of two double beds without compromising the ability to navigate within the cabin.

The kitchen boasts a novel L-shaped arrangement with a built-in drawer fridge and an induction hob with a sink. What's even more noteworthy is the inclusion of a standard hot water connection for the sink, a first in this context. This innovative layout offers an additional 20 per cent of countertop space. Moreover, all cabinets are now equipped with softly closing mechanisms, curbing any potential rattling while the campervan is in motion.
Front seats can swivel fully while parked, and the second row, accommodating three, lets five passengers journey. A novel slanting Dormer roof incorporates a self-folding cloth part and the chance to raise the mattress end above the kitchen for added headroom. A solar roof choice exists for battery charge and modest off-grid power; no generator is required.
Technology
A range of advanced connectivity options, like a 5G modem for distant WiFi, are included to ensure campers stay linked to the world amid a worldwide crisis. It further features a 7-inch touchscreen for managing onboard lighting, cabin temperature, water, and battery status.
Exact pricing and specifications remain pending, yet the upcoming Nugget will be purchasable at Ford outlets in the upcoming Autumn. Initial shipments are set for spring 2024, with plug-in hybrid editions slated for arrival within the subsequent year.
